The Challenge
Solihull MBC Chief Executive Nick Page will rode 100 miles on a static bike in Touchwood Shopping Centre on Thursday 5 February from 11am. He is aiming to raise the £5000 which is needed to purchase a ‘wheelchair bike’ - see more information on the project below.
The Project
Solihull MBC has been working with Cycling Projects over the last 12 months to establish the Solihull Wheels for All project. The project started due to the high demand for a cycling session that is safe, ideal for complete beginners and offers adapted bikes enabling people with a disability or restricted mobility to experience the thrill and fun of wheeled recreation.
We have been working in partnership with Parkview Day Centre, Bacons End Day Centre and Headway since the start of the project, and their service users have gained valuable confidence, independence and self-esteem. Due to the success of the project and the demand from service users we wish to buy a ‘wheelchair bike’ that is able to transport wheelchair users giving them the same benefits as their peers. The cost of the ‘wheelchair bike’ is £5000 which is therefore our donation target.
