From 'Relief' to 'Development'
In May 2013 the Royal Bath and West of England Society brought together a wide group of organisations with diverse interests in the Somerset Levels and Moors, including farmers, landowners, businesses, environmental and community groups, to see how we could all make a difference to the long-term future of the Levels and Moors. Investigative work was already well underway when the rains returned in December 2013 and the flooding that followed through early 2014 was even more severe.
Today is about saying
thank you for the kindness and generosity of so many individuals and
organisations who have already helped us distribute a large amount of money to farmers and landowners
in need. It is also a plea for support to help us develop long term solutions for
water management on the Somerset Levels and Moors that will be of benefit to
everyone who lives, works or visits them. From providing immediate relief for those in need to developing and preserving the future of the Levels and Moors with your help.
