Story
As a type 1 diabetic since 1997 charities doing research for Diabetes are close to my heart.
Inspired by Captain Tom, I have decided I am going to raise money by cycling 26 miles before my 30th birthday on 26th May.
As I am visually impaired, as a complication of Diabetes, I am hiring some help in the form of my dad, Stephen. We will be cycling together on a tandem with him 'piloting' and me 'stoking' from the 2nd saddle. As a complete novice this is a big challenge for me and I hope you'll support my efforts for Diabetes research for a cure with the Junior Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF).
Approximately 400,000 people in the UK live with type 1 diabetes, 29,000 of these are children. Type 1 diabetes is an indiscriminate auto-immune condition whereby the body attacks the insulin producing cells in our pancreas, a hormone vital for survival. People who live with type 1 diabetes face a rigorous daily routine of finger prick blood glucose checks and injections just to stay alive.JDRF are the type 1 diabetes charity and we are committed to funding medical research to find a cure for this condition.Cycle for a Cure in partnership with Ford is a large cycling event for all the family, we thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you in May 2020.
