Great North Run 2022
Campaign by Beat (RCN 801343)
On Sunday 11th September our incredible team of runners are taking part in the prestigious Great North Run to help end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders!

Story

This September I will be running the Great North Run 2022 to raise money for Beat, the UK’s leading eating disorder charity. Judging by my current running abilities, this is very ambitious…

As many of you will know, this is a cause which is sadly very close to mine and my family’s hearts. Eating disorders are cruel mental illnesses which destroy the lives of sufferers and their loved ones. They are often misunderstood, and can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or background. There are many forms of eating disorders, including anorexia which tragically has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. It is estimated that around 1.25 million people in the UK suffer with an eating disorder and this number is constantly rising.

Beat provide a wonderful service in assisting those suffering from and affected by eating disorders, including a national helpline which can be contacted all year round. They are always available to listen, advise, and support individuals to take positive steps towards recovery. They also support family and friends of those suffering, and ensure they are equipped with vital skills to help their loved ones recover whilst taking care of their own mental health.

Despite the prevalence and severity of eating disorders, research in this area is massively underfunded. Beat campaign to increase knowledge among healthcare professionals, and for better funding for high quality treatment. I would be so grateful for any donation you can spare to help Beat expand their services and ensure no one has to suffer alone. It is crucial that more funding is put into research for providing early intervention and fighting this awful illness.

I am dedicating my half marathon and all the runs leading up to it to anyone who is struggling or has struggled with an eating disorder, for their incredible strength and bravery.
