YMCA Fairthorne Group is an independent community charity working with children, young people, families and individuals across Hampshire and Isle of Wight to lead happy, healthy lives. We're your local community charity. And together with your support, we can achieve so much more.

Story

When I was just 16 years old I ran away from Foster Care, from
18 years old to 21 I found myself homeless due to no family support, long waiting lists, no credit rating to private rent and not meeting the criteria for supported accommodation I was failed by the system which was supposed to help me.

Just before my 21st birthday I was finally accepted into a private bedsit, I was so excited, but that excitement was short lived when the residency became hostile and inadequate.

During this time I reached rock bottom and attempted to take my own life. When I was in hospital I wasn't once asked about my situation or mental state, my cry for help was ignored and once again I felt alone and helpless.

Not long after I left hospital I finally opened up to my lovely English tutor at college and she took the time to be there for me, she even put me forward for two awards which I won. It was at this moment I finally found self-worth, I felt proud of my story and realised I could help change the world for others in my situation so I did and I continued to make a great success of my life.

For the last 4 years I have been sleeping out on the streets
with the amazing YMCA to raise money and awareness of the plight of young homeless people and thanks to you lovely people I have been able to raise thousands of pounds which has helped to support, house, clothe and encourage others to not only live but succeed in life.

On March 20th I will be sleeping out on the streets with
my lovely friends Dawn Clay, her children and Becky Hardy, we would all love it if you would show your support by donating to our cause.

Like most years it will be very cold with possible rain, wind or
snow storms which we will be riding out in a card board box so any donations small or large will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance 😊
