AJ Bell Great Scottish Run Half Marathon 2023 · 1 October 2023 ·

Harbour Ayrshire works to empower individuals recovering from drug and/or alcohol addiction, assisting them to become independent and supporting their integration back into the community. Our vision is to see previously written off individuals become self supporting members of society.

Story

This October, I will be running the AJ Bell Half Marathon in Glasgow in memory of much missed family members and to help raise funds for the fantastic charity, Harbour Ayrshire. All donations will be put forward to help rebuild the lives of individuals suffering from the complex illness of addiction and to support families deeply affected by the illness.

Addiction is a disease that is too often stigmatised even though it is suffered by so many in Scotland. It is a complicated illness that does not discriminate. Having witnessed first-hand the effects of addiction within my own loved ones and wider community, times could feel rather dark. I can gladly say there are charities that exist to welcome those hurt by substance misuse with open arms, including myself. Donating to Harbour Ayrshire will allow the charity to continue to build on their services that empower individuals affected by addiction first or second-hand. The multitude of peer support groups, out of hours helpline, community support services and weekly activities are only some of the services that Harbour provides.

Any donations, no matter how small, would be much appreciated. Thank you!
