Virtual London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

The London Marathon. 26.2 miles.

Oh goodness me..

What started off as drunken banter between friends, saw Simon & me signing ourselves up.. a few months later, having completely forgotten all about it, I was standing at my cooker watching over a delicious fry up for Charlie (& me!) when we heard a loud thud.. I went to the door to find a rather hefty envelope.. SHIT. I’ve been accepted. I frantically called Simon, who had heard nothing.. SHIT. I’ve gotta do it on my own.. however, my friends, family & Millwall have been amazing support!

Covid played havoc with my training as I couldn’t leave Fletch to go out running, but tried to fit it in as & when I could.. then it got cancelled.. Finally went through all my emails a couple of weeks ago & realised that the “virtual marathon” is going ahead.. on the 3rd October 2021.. SHIT.. I’m going to try my absolute best!

I am running, hopping, skipping, dancing, walking & probably crawling by the end.. on behalf of Alzheimer’s Society. Dementia is a cruel illness that forces us to grieve the loss of our loved ones whilst holding their hand, desperately hoping they’ll remember.. repeatedly convincing them that everything will be okay.

In 2014, just before Fletcher was born, his great grandad, Len, passed away - having spent a lot of time with him, especially towards the end, he’d always ask me “where are you hiding that baby?”.. it breaks my heart that he didn’t get to meet him - he was a lovely man & I loved all the stories he shared with me 💙

For Grandad Ray, who passed away in 2017, who I sadly didn’t know, but I think the world of his wife & his family. The stories that his family have shared with us, you can tell what an amazing man he was & his children, grandchildren & even great grandchildren are a credit to him 💙

My heart broke in October 2019 when I lost my great nan, Blossy Chops. I am so incredibly grateful that Fletcher knew you, but that he’s old enough to remember you. I was so grateful to have 28/93 years with her & will cherish the memories I have with her, and the ones that she shared with me.. but after so many years of missing her husband, it’s time for us to miss her & we do, every day ❤️‍🩹

Most recently, Maurice.. the most beautifully gentle soul that I have had the pleasure of meeting.. So much kindness & patience with excellent music taste.. I have so much love & respect for him, as does Fletcher. Young Sir, you will always be a legend & you will always be missed 💙

My Grandpa. My hero, my inspiration, my best friend. My grandad was diagnosed with dementia last year & on the 23rd December, we were told there aren’t any preventative measures that can be taken.. so I’m enjoying the time we have & spend as much time as I can with him. Fletcher idolises my grandad, as do I & watching his dementia working away continuously breaks my heart - there’s no healing, but there is good days and those days are my favourite ❤️

Many people have had their lives impacted by the agonising pain that is caused by the disease & I want to raise money to help them find a cure & to aid those who need their help.. any donation will be greatly appreciated. I did have another page, which isn’t working anymore - so here is my new one!

Cash donations will be paid directly to the Alzheimer’s Society 💜
