Story

Dear friends, family or anyone else who finds themselves on this page,

I have rather crazily signed up for the Bolton UK IRONMAN...a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and then (as if that wasn't enough) a marathon on foot to top it all off... Not only this, but I seem to have picked one of the most 'hilly' events with 7,751ft and 1,200ft elevation gain on the cycle and run. On 4th July 2021, I'll be put through my paces for roughly 14 hours of non-stop exercise, which at this stage, is an extremely intimidating prospect considering I've never attempted any from of triathlon before. To prepare for this mammoth event I have 11 months of training ahead...

Now why am I doing this? I wanted to raise money for a charity that is extremely dear to me. A close friend of mine, Emma, who I started my hockey journey with, was sadly taken from us too soon from an undiagnosed heart condition.

CRY is an amazing charity that works to help save young lives like Emma's (read more on this below). I've always wanted to complete the toughest of challenges to honor her memory and extraordinary athletic ability.

Every mile that I swim, cycle and run will be done with her at the forefront of my mind and I would absolutely love it if you could donate anything you can spare! Every penny counts.

Thank you and big love,

Sophie xxx

P.S. This is going to involve A LOT of training (roughly 15 hours a week at the peak of the schedule) and so any swim/cycle/run buddies would be greatly appreciated along the way.

Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young. By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions. See how your support can help by visiting www.c-r-y.org.uk
