Story
With the news that Central Bedfordshire is one of the areas now going into Tier 4 over Christmas there are so many people who don’t have anyone or the luxury to be able to spend time with family. It’s a challenging time but for me, I am able to go to work, I am able to facetime my family and keep in close contact. Many vulnerable and lonely people are unable. Some people can go days without even speaking to anyone.
Over the Christmas period I aim to run a marathon (not all in one go as there’s no chance!) but aim to spread it across the 4 bank holiday days, aiming for 10km a day. This will take 1 and a half hours (depending how slow I need to go- some may need to be walked...) out of my day which ultimately isn’t a lot. It’s a small target to reach, but something is better than nothing and will hopefully make a small difference.
Remember, in these strange times, just be kind. A simple “hello” to a stranger may be the only contact they have that day. If you know you have a neighbour who lives alone, check in with them over the festive period.
From Age Uk:
Loneliness: in figures | ||
