Story
I’m running 200 miles this January to raise funds and awareness in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer, the UK's leading ovarian cancer charity. They target what’s important to stop ovarian cancer devastating lives – that means symptoms awareness, life-saving early diagnosis, better treatments and support for everyone affected by ovarian cancer.
My fundraising target is £680, because this could fund 40 calls to Target Ovarian Cancer's nurse-led support line when someone needs advice and information they can trust.
If you can help me raise £500, this could fund two days of life-saving research to help find new, better and targeted treatments.
In April 2025, at the age of 45, I was diagnosed with low grade ovarian cancer stage 3b. At the start of June, I underwent major cytoreductive surgery which included a total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, removal of my omentum, partial stripping of my diaphragm and most importantly removal of two cancerous tumours. For several days my step count was 0 as I was unable to get out of bed. Once home, even walking up and down the stairs tired me out and it was over a month before I could walk up the hill from the shops. On July 31st, I started my first of six chemotherapy cycles (paclitaxel and carboplatin).
Throughout this, the staff at Target Ovarian Cancer were on the end of the phone for me, answering my numerous questions and listening to my anxieties and worries. I joined their online tea and chat support group, where laughter is shared amongst pain and tears.
My steps per day have increased, my walking stride and core muscle strength have improved but I am still not back to my pre surgery levels of fitness so this January I am pushing myself to walk 200miles (an average of 50miles a week).
Please support me in taking on this challenge, and together we’ll transform the future for everyone diagnosed with ovarian cancer! 💜
