Story
For those of you who knew Roger Belson you would have known a man who was brave, gentle and kind. A man who, despite all adversity, retained his zest for life and his desire to help and touch the lives of others. For me, I knew a different man. He was my dad and a man whom I will never replace. As a man he was an inspiration and as a father he was my world. My children, to this day, speak with love and adoration for their ‘barbar’ and it is with my dad’s and my children’s inspiration that I am attempting this challenge.
On Sunday, 21 April I am going to be running The London Marathon in aid of Regain, the only charitable organisation dedicated solely to improving the independence of all British men and women who have became tetraplegic as a result of a sports or leisure injury. A charity that my beloved dad devoted much of his time and energy to in his role as director. I am aiming to raise £1,500 but much more than that, I am aiming to make my family proud of me in memory of my father.
I am so proud to be Roger’s daughter and I have been so touched by all the support and well wishes from the hundreds of people he has helped. I know he’d have been full of admiration of what I am trying to achieve and I would welcome and appreciate any support you could offer. I am in training and though it’s going to be difficult, I am enjoying the challenge. I’ll keep you all updated as I move towards this goal.
On behalf of my family and myself, thank you.
Sophie.
