Sophie's Raising for Salford Royal Neurology Team

Raising for Salford Royal Neurology Team · 8 August 2014
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For those of you who don't know me my name is Sophie Simpson. I have created this page to raise money for Salford Royal Hospital Neurology Ward. On the 8th August 2013 my mum had 3 fits and was taking into Stepping Hill Hospital where the hospital sedated my mum and gave her a CT scan. The scan results showed our worse fears, My mum had had a bleed on the brain. Stepping Hill couldn't tell us where the bleed was located or how severe the bleed was due to the amount of blood around the brain. Sat in the family room at Stepping Hill with my brother, sister and dad we were told to prepare for the worst as this was fatal and could/would end my mums life.
Mum was transfered to Salford Royal Hospital within a matter of hours and was taken to the intensive care unit at this hospital. The staff at Salford Royal are absoloutley fantastic. Mum underwent 3 seperate operations and we dealt with so many different doctors and nurses I could never remember the name to thank them. Within 2 and a half days mum was taken out of Intensive Care and put into high dependency. This was brilliant Mum was awake talking and doing well. As a family we were all so gob smacked when mum had to be moved back into Intensive care after suffering with spasams of the brain. This meant mum had to go in to theatre for another procedure to open the arterys around the brain to keep the blood flowing, Mum had to have this procedure done twice. The doctors were very re-assuring and the nurses were great with us. I would go in and see mum in her room in the intensive care unit and I would ask the nurse a million and one questions and the nurse would answer. I remember thinking to myself I dont know how these nurses do this job. They Truly are amazing. Mum stayed steady and comfortable and the Doctors moved mum to high dependency after a long stint in intensive care as she was breathing for herself and coping so well.
In high dependancy mum was steady. The staff were great with mum and she was doing so well all her levels were steady her breathing improved rapidly and they decided she was ready to be moved to a rehabiliation ward. Each move mum made we knew was a good move but we couldnt help but find it terryifying 'what if she isnt ready?' 'what if this could frighten her and be too much for her and we end up back at square one?' Once again the nurses and Doctors did there up most best to ensure us that they wouldnt be doing this if mum wasnt ready and that she was fighting tough and doing great.
Mum was moved to a rehabilitation ward in salford and remained there for 4 and a half weeks where each day she would go through physio therapy with the specialist. Some days they would sit her in a chair for 2 hours as part of the rehabilitation. This is where we saw mum come on leaps and bounds. She started to talk to us only one or two words at a time and infront of my eyes day by day I could see mums health improving. The staff on the Neuro Rehabilitation Ward at Salford Royal are lovely. Mum looked comfy everyday and content. This was the scariest 9 weeks of my life.
My Mum has been moved on the 8th of October 2013 to the Devonshire Unit which is a neuro rehabilitation unit closer to home where she will continue her journey on this long road to recovery. As a thank you to Salford Royal I have vouched that I will raise some money to help and support the Neuro Team and Intensive Care Ward. I know this Journey is far from over but I feel capable of actually doing things to help now. If you could donate to this amazing cause I would be truly greatful as this Hospital saved my mums life and if I could donate any money at all I would feel like Ive given back atleast something. Over the next Year I will be doing various different things to help raise money from cake sales too how many sweets in the jar too guess the name of the teddy I am also looking at doing a sponsored sky dive so I will be doing a few things to hopefully earn some pennys. But in the mean time if you could start donating Id be very grateful.
Thanks Guys :)
