Story

was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2022 in my terminal ileum, not only has it caused agonising pains and other symptoms which are classed as flares, I’ve been recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes due to long term steroids, Chronic fatigue syndrome and bile acid malabsorption, which is unfortunately all interlinked with crohns. I am unable to digest foods and absorb nutrition due to the area where the disease is situated.

Unfortunately both Crohn’s and Colitis is an incurable condition and soon enough I will face major surgery within my bowel, like many others within the UK.

This has been a long run getting diagnosed from the age of 5 where I started getting my first symptoms. I’m now 27 and still in an active flare up. Not only has it effected me physically, it’s effected my socially and mentally. I’m a nurse within the nhs and unfortunately found it extremely hard throughout 2022 practicing as this, my dream job.

I’ve had multiple tests, including colonoscopy’s, MRI and Ultrasound scans (only to name a few) with now on biological IV medication (Infliximab) every 8 weeks in hospital as well as 10 tablets a day to control my pains and other symptoms related to crohns.

I’ve had over a years dosage of steroids, of which unfortunately hasn’t work. This has resulted in multiple A&E visits and hospitalisations and relapsing twice. This is daunting and frightening and I sympathise with anybody that has this disease. This is just a short story of what I’ve had to deal with, I’ve overcome many hurdles but ultimately I am not in remission despite all medical interventions.

Anybody who has crohns and colitis struggles with daily life. I am raising awareness and money so one day, there might be a cure.  Me and my family are showing support by taking part in the 33rd 'Bluebell Walk or Cycle Ride, on Sunday 30th April.I'll be raising funds for Crohn's & Colitis UK Local Networks, Leicestershire and Rutland, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Central.
