On the 1st February I will start my 30 hours in a wheelchair challenge in order to raise valuable and vital funds for The Back-Up Trust a Spinal Cord Injuries Charity.

Every year nearly 1000 people in the UK are permanently paralysed due to Spinal Cord Injury and The Back-Up Trust aim to reach as many of these people as possible to offer support and guidance through this life changing event.

Since joining Wellspect Healthcare in July 2013 as a member of the Select Home Delivery Service  I have gained an overwhelming amount of knowledge regarding Spinal Cord Injury. In September 2015 I was given an opportunity through work that challenged and changed my whole perception of what I thought I already knew.

I was able to volunteer as a Back-Up Trust Buddy on their Wheelchairs Skills Course in Belfast. The courses main aim was to help build on the wheelchair skills participants already had whilst giving them a safe and controlled environment to learn new things.

During the course I spent a day out in the City of Belfast in a wheelchair. It was scary, tiring and at times frustrating  (especially as I seemed to like spending more time on the floor than in the chair) but it also gave me a whole new perspective on how people live their lives when they have no choice but to use a wheelchair.

This is a tough time of year for fundraising and I will really appreciate any donation you can spare for this amazing charity. The work they do really does save lives.
