Auditory Verbal UK is a small national charity which transforms the lives of deaf babies and children by teaching them to listen and speak. Auditory Verbal Therapy sessions are fun, play-based and provide parents with extra skills and confidence. Please visit www.avuk.org for further information.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

AVUK is the only UK charity providing Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT), a specialist family intervention which helps deaf children learn to listen and speak, to families with children born deaf or who lose their hearing in their early years. Four out of five children who graduate from the AVUK programme start school with age-appropriate spoken language meaning they can make friends, learn and grow to be whoever they want to be- the sky is the limit.

AVUK train professionals, like me, in Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT) so that there will be enough specialists that families who want to can access AVT locally to them and through publicly funded services. The charity offers bursaries for training. Without the bursary I simply wouldn't be able to do this programme which will allow me to better support the deaf children I work with to reach their full potential.

Running the London Landmarks Half Marathon with my boyfriend Will is a small way I can give back to AVUK for this opportunity.
