🚶♀️10,000 Steps a Day Challenge for the UK Sepsis Trust 💛
This July, I’m taking on the 10,000 Steps a Day Challenge to raise awareness and funds for the UK Sepsis Trust — a charity that now means so much to our family.
Over Easter, our son Ozzy was diagnosed with meningococcal septicaemia (sepsis) a life-threatening infection caused by the meningococcus bacteria. It was the most terrifying moment of our lives, something no parent ever expects to face.
Meningococcal disease is a severe and fast-moving infection that includes two major illnesses: meningitis (infection of the lining around the brain and spinal cord) and septicaemia (sepsis) blood poisoning caused by the body’s extreme response to infection. These can occur separately, but more often, they appear together. Sepsis is often the more life-threatening of the two.
In Ozzy’s case, it was meningococcal septicaemia — a particularly dangerous type that can lead to organ failure, limb loss, or death if not treated immediately. Early treatment with antibiotics and rapid hospital admission are absolutely critical.
Thanks to the incredible care Ozzy received, he is now on the road to recovery. But too many families aren’t as fortunate, and sepsis is still too often missed or recognised too late.
That’s why I’ll be walking 10,000 steps every single day in July to:
👣 Honour Ozzy’s strength and bravery
👣 Support other families affected by sepsis
👣 Raise awareness of the signs that can save lives
Please support us if you can by donating, sharing, or simply taking a moment to learn the symptoms of sepsis. Your support truly means the world 🫶
