Hi, I'm Sophie. I’m running the London Marathon 2024 and fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support (registered charity number 261017). 

After heartbreakingly losing our Grandad in 2019, our lives got turned upside down. Typing those words fills my eyes with tears, but I must go on… 

Team Macmillan was there when we needed them; day or night, weekday or weekend, they were there. More than 3 million people are currently living with cancer in the UK; a number set to increase to 4 million by 2030. Your charitable donations will help those volunteers who care for cancer patients, such as Grandad, deliver vital life changing services and support.

Above all else, our Grandad was a family man who loved us unconditionally. Continuously playing practical jokes and causing mischief, he was happiest with a house full of people laughing, having fun and making happy memories. I miss his smile and the sound of his laughter.

Ordinarily a very smart dresser, collar and tie with polished shiny shoes (he probably got his formal dress sense from serving in the Royal Artillery as a Gunner in the late 1950s!), Grandad was prone to dressing up in funny costumes for extravagant parties. Taking pride in his appearance, his warm presence was always known.
