We are raising money to help Sophie, a beautiful 13 year old cat who is currently in our care, to hit her weight loss goal of 5kg.

Sophie's owner was an elderly lady who needed extra care so moved into a nursing home and Sophie was moved to a cattery. Sadly her owner passed away and we rescued her.

When she came into us she was in a very sorry state. She was smelly, dirty and flea ridden. We could see that she was dangerously overweight, but were still shocked that she weighed 10.15kg (1 stone 7 pounds). Thats the same as a 2 year old child or 1 car tyre.

A healthy cats weighs between 4-5 kg, so poor Sophie is twice the size that she should be.

Luckily, she doesn't have any of the health problems connected with obesity, like diabetes, but is still at severe risk of developing issues.

She is more active than she was and loves to have a little stroll round the garden which is a great improvement, as before she could hardly get out of her bed and wander round the kitchen. But she still finds this really difficult and has a long why to go before she can enjoy a happy and energetic life.

She struggles with grooming and every day cleanliness, so she needs a little help from us which she's not always happy about, but as she loses weight this will improve, meaning that she will be able to clean herself properly again.

We are raising money to help Sophie hit her target. Due to Sophie's condition she needs more specialist care than a regularly cat.

Any money raised will go towards:

• The cost of her specialist food
  
• Her vet bills - as she needs regular checks
  
• 1 to 1 care
