Story
During the Easter holiday (April 14 to 28th 2018) I'll be returning to the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal with 23 intrepid Yr10 students and parents.
We will visit the remote village of Lura and are raising funds to help complete the rebuild of the local Manju Shree Primary School following the devastating earthquake in April 2015.
Stage 1 of the rebuild required a total demolition and reconstruction of the eastern wing of the school. This work commenced in late 2015 and was completed in early 2016 with final interior fittings done in early 2017.
Stage 2 of the project requires a complete reconstruction of the south wing of the school and it is estimated the total cost of this rebuild is approximately AU$35,000.00.
Your donation to this worthwhile cause is greatly appreciated.
My connection with this community dates back to 2002 when I first met Lakpa Tamang, a climbing sherpa and farmer (during the climbing off season) from Lura village. For the past 15 years Lakpa and I have worked together on numerous mountaineering expeditions in Nepal and Tibet and in 2010 I visited Lura village and Lakpa's family with my wife and 2 daughters. In 2015 I returned to Lura with 26 Yr10 students and parents who experienced first-hand the incredible hospitality of Lakpa Tamang and the local community.
