We support visually impaired Londoners to reduce isolation & promote independence

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm delighted to be running the 2022 London Marathon to raise money for BlindAid, as part of the Mayor of Southwark's 2022-23 Charity Appeal.

As London’s oldest charity for blind and visually impaired people, BlindAid aim to ensure that no visually impaired Londoner is left living in isolation.

They work to improve quality of life and promote independence for Londoners with a visual impairment. They provide individualised practical and emotional support to reduce the social isolation that many people living with a visual impairment can experience.

The pandemic has shone a light on isolation and loneliness over the past few years. For blind and visually impaired people it has presented even greater hardships, so I'd like to support BlindAid in the work they do to, from small gestures like remembering a birthday of a service user, to life changing interventions.

Reaching my target would cover the cost of regular visits by a Sight Support Worker to a BlindAid service user for a whole year. Smashing it would have even greater impact, funding attendance at community project classes, promoting confidence, independence and social inclusion.

Please donate if you can.

(I only found out I had a place in the marathon at the beginning of August, meaning I'll only have 9 weeks to train for it in total. Given how little running I've done over the past 3 months training is going to be tough, but I'm determined to give it my best - wish me luck!)

We offer practical and emotional support to blind and visually impaired Londoners. Join our amazing community Every pound we receive and every action you take helps us reach more people with sight loss. Our Sight Support workers offer emotional and practical support to over 1000 blind and partially sighted people. But the need is much greater: in our community there are still thousands of people who are left alone to deal with the impact of visual impairment. That is why we need your support: to help us reach every single person that is feeling isolated. Each gift we receive will ensure we can offer support, advice and reassurance to people with a visual impairment when they need it most.
