In memory of Sophie Trevelyan Thomas
We provide world class education to advance the understanding of art history

Story

Sophie Trevelyan Thomas, who worked as Deputy Director in the Old Master Paintings Department at Sotheby’s and who was an alumna of The Courtauld Institute of Art, died tragically in November 2013. Sotheby’s is working with Sophie’s family and The Courtauld to raise money to establish a permanently endowed scholarship in Sophie’s name. The creation of this award will enable at least one scholar each year to further their education in History of Art at The Courtauld, which will be a wonderful lasting memorial for Sophie.

The scholarship will cover the tuition fees for an MA History of Art student each academic year, in perpetuity. It will be awarded each year to a student who is taking an MA in any module from the Medieval or Renaissance periods, thereby reflecting Sophie’s interests.  In order to provide one MA scholarship every year, we need to raise a minimum of £125,000. If we raise £250,000 we can potentially provide two scholarships every year, which would be an incredible achievement.

A team from Sotheby's will be running in the Windsor Half Marathon on 28th September, and kindly supported by our friends in the Old Master and British Paintings and Drawings departments, we will be holding a bake day in advance to thank you for your kind donations.

Thank you very much.
