This is a personal passion project of mine, having worked in the food industry for many years I am always so inspired to see the positive effect that sitting together and enjoying a lovingly prepared meal has on people and their mood. In our busy lives we can become overcome with our to-do list and the constant distraction of technology rather than taking the time to truly appreciate the food on our plate and the company at our table. I believe that human connection is essential to positive mental health and by inviting someone to your special meal you may not even realise the comfort and joy this will give them if they are struggling in any aspect of their lives. Taking this one step further, and because of my own personal link to the issue of mental health, I want to break down any taboos and encourage people to bring their friends and communities together over the simple act of "breaking bread". As well as friends, I encourage you to invite people you wouldn't normally have round to dinner and make a special effort to make them feel wanted, welcome and cared for.
The aim here is to go on www.jennaelsby.com/soulfulsuppers and download your fundraising pack (available from Feb 1st), which includes suggested recipes, styling ideas and playlists - then host your own Soulful Supper in your home or community. Get everyone to bring a dish or treat them to a meal you have prepared and charge attendees a fee for a seat at your table (suggested seat price is £20) and then donate your wonderful fundraising efforts to this here page where all proceeds go to Mind.
