Story

I am delighted and excited to be part of a team of 20 riders joining Geoff Thomas, former England footballer, for his last ever Tour de France, in June. We will be cycling over 3,400 km one day ahead of the professionals and aiming to raise £1,000.000 for Cure Leukaemia.

Cure Leukaemia helps blood cancer patients to access pioneering drug and transplant treatments by funding a network of specialist research nurses across the UK. Without these nurses, to ensure patients are monitored and cared for, clinical trials of these new treatments would not run and patients, that have exhausted standard treatment options, would miss out on potentially lifesaving therapies. Every penny raised for Cure Leukaemia helps save lives and also hastens global progress towards the eradication of all forms of blood cancer.

I have led an incredible amount of South & City College Birmingham charity fundraising over a number of years now, all with a real relevance to staff and students at the college. We are supporting Cure Leukaemia because  a number of individuals here at the college have had the disease; sadly one of our managers passed away as a result. However, there is also a personal significance as my father died of leukaemia two years ago, having had immense help and support at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The Covid pandemic stopped the event taking place last year but training has started in earnest for this year's event taking place 19 June to 11 July 2021, one week ahead of the actual Tour de France event which takes place 26 June to 18 July 2021.

I am in training and will regularly update the page to let you know how I'm getting on.

Thanks to everyone for your incredible support and donations.

Cure Leukaemia fund research nurses at 15 hospitals across the UK. These roles form the Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP) network giving patients, from a catchment area of 30m, access to potentially life-saving treatments through clinical trials, with plans to fund a paediatric network on the way.
