Story
First of all thank you so much for coming and having a look at our page, with so many great causes out there, it means a lot!
Liam:
I just wanted to say a few words about what has inspired all this.
In December I lost my nan. It was devastating for all my family as she had always been such a fantastic role model to us all.
Family was everything to my nan, us Monahans aren't known for our Nobel Prizes or doctorates but that didn't matter to her, she was proud of us all. She was never happier than when we were all at a wedding, birthday or even just all crowded on her couch watching Corrie.
During her last few years she began to display the early signs of dementia (initially it was basic things like becoming more forgetful,) however the disease got worse and worse until her last few months when she was bed ridden, unable to talk or do anything for herself.
Nan worked hard all of her life and really deserved to have more time enjoying the achievements of her grandchildren and great grandchildren; Alzheimer's disease took away her last chances to do so. Of course though, she wasn't the only one to suffer. As a family we've never felt more helpless than when we had to watch on as this incurable disease took a stronger and stronger hold on her.
Funding levels into dementia cures and support for sufferers is criminally low. I hate the idea of more and more families having to go through what happened to us.
So I (along with my good friend Matty) have decided to do the Southport Marine Lake Triathlon!
On 15th June we'll be jumping into the Marine Lake (even typing that is scary) for a mile swim, getting on the bike for 25 miles and running another 6. Considering neither of us have ever even tried swimming in open water, or taken part in a bike race; it should be fun!
Any donations big or small are appreciated so much.
Thanks x
Liam & Matty.
