Between the 3rd and 6th of September, the two of us will be walking the 155 km between Southwark and Canterbury, along sections of the Pilgrim’s and North Downs Ways. Known as the ‘Becket Way’, it is recommended to spend 11 days on the route - but we will be attempting to complete it in under 4, walking for around 9 hours without rest each day. Whilst a personal challenge for us, we will also be raising money for the Penny Appeal fund helping Uyghur Muslim refugees in Turkey. Suffering great prejudice in their native Xinjiang, many have escaped the human rights abuses, but are forced to live in relative poverty elsewhere. We, and they, would be incredibly grateful for any donations received. Here is a word from the charity themselves:

Over 2 million Uyghur Muslims are being held in re-education camps concentration camps in China, where they are experience extreme prejudice, and forced to denounce Islam. Its heart-breaking.I am happy to say that over 67,000 Uyghur refugees have managed to flee the genocide in China, and are now living in Turkey. However, being a refugee is not easy for anyone. The Uyghur have escaped the emergency, but they are still struggling to cope in a new country, where the winter is bitter, the language is different and the work opportunities are few. We are encouraging people to donate to Penny Appeal, so that they can help these Uyghur refugees to get back on their feet.
