We work through listening and outreach to reduce the number of suicides in the UK.

Story

Our family is supporting South West Herts Samaritans who are close to our hearts particularly because of our daughter, Sally's, on-going volunteering with this branch. She has been a volunteer for almost 12 years and we can see how much difference the work makes to the lives of those who are struggling.

South West Herts Samaritans are focussing on expanding at the moment so they can answer more calls for help and continue to increase the number of new online chat shifts they run - contributing to the national pilot.

South West Herts Samaritans are a group of passionate volunteers working together to make sure fewer people die by suicide, within the national charity of Samaritans. They answer calls from all across the country, working together with other branches to make sure there is someone there 24/7.

They also reach out to the local community, including schools, railway stations and hospitals, to improve people's emotional health. They train and support the "Listeners" - a Samaritan-trained team of men in HMP The Mount.

They opened their doors over 50 years ago in 1969 and have been working hard ever since to be there for anyone - no matter who you are, no matter what life has thrown at you.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
