A team of 11 people from Willesborough Baptist Church went to Boroviki in Belarus from 31 July to 12 August 2009. This trip was arranged through an organisation called Samaritans Purse (best known for the thousands of Christmas shoeboxes they distribute each year to disadvantaged children in various countries). We were based at a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts helped with some minor repair work to buildings and visited local schools, people affected by HIV, the Chenobyl disaster and elderly widows etc; we also helped to run a children's holiday club. We were made to feel so welcome by the generous people of Belarus and we learnt so much about the country and the issues that are faced by its people. We have built links with the communities and churches we visited and want to develop these further in the future.
