Story

We will be completing a series of five events from October 2021 to October 2022 to raise money for the Dance Scholarship Trust. Owing to the coronavirus and challenges of the last year and a half, given our geographic spread, and with the highs, lows and busy-ness of life, we aim to tackle one separate challenge each - four events to push us outside our comfort zones. We will then reunite for a final group activity to share our experiences!

We’re calling this an amended pentathlon - our SPAB-tathlon challenge! Beth is undertaking the first event - the Cambridge half marathon - on Sunday 17th October. This is the starter challenge and we hope you will be able to give generously, knowing that this fundraising event will be ongoing for several months yet!

We will update this event page with lots of details of the following trials as they shape-up, but the working plan is the Land's End to John o' Groats cycle, a wild swim, and a hike. Finally, we’ll take to the water together for a two-day canoe journey stopping off at some buildings dear to the SPAB. Highlights to be updated soon!

We are fundraising for the Dance Scholarship Trust (named after Harry and Monica Dance, for more information please see the following link: http://www.dancescholarshiptrust.org.uk), which supports and funds an intense 9 month traveling scholarship, provided by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (for more information on the scholarship, please see the following link: https://www.spab.org.uk/learning/scholarship ). The Scholarship is for Architects, Engineers and Building Surveyors in the conservation of historic buildings, who are passionate about the protection of built heritage and the promotion of traditional craft skills.

We were awarded the Scholarship in 2019 and enjoyed the most wonderful year travelling together. We’re saddened that 2020 prevented many more joint adventures, and look forward to these challenges together in spirit, and to give back to the Trust and Society.

We would be extremely grateful for any sponsorship that you may be able to offer and will keep you updated throughout the SPAB-tathlon.

Thank you in advance!

Beth, Christian, Dan and Holly
