Story
Hello!
The three of us are walking a mile alongside other mums and dads who have also had premature or sick babies that have stayed in RUH NICU. We are aware of how desperate they are for funds for more life saving equipment and more space to look after these babies.
Having being there ourselves with Finley who stayed there for the first 5 weeks of his life, you have to share a very small room several incubators and parents while you are all breastfeeding and changing the nappies. You don't get the privacy that you desperately need at a time where you should be bonding with your child.
The Royal United Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has a great reputation for saving the lives of tiny, frail babies.
Each year, they provide 24-hour care to around 500 premature or desperately ill newborn infants in cramped, noisy surroundings. There's barely enough space for essential life-saving equipment, let alone any privacy for distressed new parents.
Therefore The Forever Friends Appeal has agreed to raise £4.5 million to fund a new building that will create a light, calm, welcoming environment allowing our babies
's p a c e to grow'.
Their aims are to:
• Provide a unit more than double the size of the existing unit
• Create what is believed to be the UK's first purpose built, sustainable NICU
• Enhance the clinical care further with the latest integrated modular systems
