Story
Can you imagine being unable to tell your loved ones how you feel? Those loved ones could be your children, your grandchildren, your partner or a dear friend. Imagine not being able to say the words ‘I love you’… or any words at all.
By the time Robert was just 22, he’d had three strokes. He could no longer tell his baby son that he loved him. He could no longer tell baby John anything at all. In just one devastating day, he lost his ability to communicate. His only way of ‘speaking’ was by pointing at pictures, like the ones you see in the gallery below.
Will you make a donation today towards
our crucial Life After Stroke Services, such as Communication Support? Your
gift could help someone like Robert find ways to connect with their loved ones
again.
Stroke Association Communication Coordinators see time and time again how
quickly stroke survivors like Robert can start to feel isolated from their
family and friends. This is why it is absolutely critical that we can offer the
right support as soon as possible.
Yet currently only half of UK stroke survivors benefit from our vital
support services. And this is why we need your help today.
Your gift could help us reach more stroke survivors like Robert – and provide them with the communication tools they need to feel empowered after stroke.
Our tailored, individual support made the world
of difference to Robert’s rehabilitation. A Communication Coordinator visited
Robert at home, where she helped him build enough confidence to go to his local
Stroke Association Communication Support Group.
However,
many stroke survivors do not access the same crucial support that Robert
received from the Stroke Association – the support which changed his life.
Will you help us reach out to them – right now – with a gift towards the
specialist help they need to communicate once more?
