Story
We are giving up the booze for February in order to raise money for the Biscuit Fund, who provide financial help for people facing poverty and destitution in the UK. As anyone who knows us both will tell you, we hugely enjoy a (few) pint(s) in the pub, and this joint abstention will be NO MEAN FEAT.
We're committing ourselves to this task in order to raise money for a fairly new and small-ish charity, because we feel that their work is incredibly important in the current UK context. The Biscuit Fund ethos rejects setting criteria for helping people, and doesn't ask anyone to fill out long forms 'proving' their need. We feel that this part of their approach is really important, especially given that many of their beneficiaries are subject to the current UK 'welfare' system, which often strips people of their dignity and privacy in return for increasingly inadequate financial support.
