3,000km is a long way to cycle

Tour Aotearoa · 16 February 2020
Kia Ora,
As most of you know, James and I have a shared love of all things bike and adventure. This year, we are planning to bike pack from Cape Reinga (the very north of the North Island) to Bluff (the very south of the South Island) in under a month. A casual 3,000km whilst carrying all our kit including tent, sleeping stuff, clothes, food, and water.
James' love of biking was put on hold after crashing his bike, and head, into a tree in our local mountain bike park October 2017 and going from 35kph to 0 using the side of his head. After being given 3 weeks of paracetamol from the doctor and told to go away things didn't get much better. For months he was stuck inside with sunglasses on and the curtains closed because daylight was too much, after getting his heart rate to 115bpm for less than 15 minutes he had a headache for a week after, he was in a bad way. 2 1/2 years on he is suffering with the aftermath of a serious brain trauma but we are getting there.
Although we haven't directly been helped by headway, if they can help any Islanders who may need support that we weren't given it can only be a good thing.
