Story

My name is Martin, I am 26 years old and I live in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire. I have decided to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats. This journey will take me between 800-1000 miles (depending on route) through some of Britain's busiest, quiestest, longest and steepest roads. Now even though we are undertaking this challenge, it would not be possible with the help of our support teams Kate, Anne, Dudley, Luke & Hayley, so a big thank you to them.

Why am I doing this? Well my fiancee Melanie, suffers with an illness called ME. Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) is characterised by a range of neurological symptoms and signs, muscle pain with intense physical or mental exhaustion, relapses, and specific cognitive disabilities.

The key points of this illness are;

- It is a real, often relapsing, debilitating illness, affecting up to 150,000 people in the UK, with similar rates of incidence in Europe, USA, New Zealand and Australia.

- Studies have shown that most sufferers are unable to work to full capacity, and that 25% are severely disabled with some house/bed-bound.

- The cause is still unknown, and no cure or effective treatment has yet been found.

This last point is the reason why we have decided to undertake this challenge. There is still so much that needs to be discovered about this illness and your donations will help to do that.

Well, I hope you have found this page informative and even if you choose not to donate, we thank you for your time and hope you can forward the details of this page onto others.

Many thanks,

Martin
