STOP PRESS: HE DID IT!
The London Marathon was an unforgettable experience. Despite my best efforts, I know that I hadn't really put in sufficient training at the longer distances - and yet, as I had been told before I started, the support of the crowd meant it was like running down a 26-mile finishing straight. In those awful last few miles, when all I wanted to do was lie down and die, the thought of everyone's support kept me going. Whatever my body felt like, I simply couldn't give up!
And my time – 4 hours 8 minutes - was irrelevant in the end. I was just glad to finish.
So far, the amazing support of all you good people has raised over £30,000 through the marathon, and there are still forms to come back in. It's generated good publicity for the Campaign, the Cathedral (and indeed for Medway – I got interviewed on BBC1 before the race), it's brought in a sizeable chunk of money, and it's given people something to talk about!
Thank you for helping me through it, for your kindness, interest, generosity and thoughtfulness. I'm not sure I'll ever want to do it again, but it was an experience I will never forget!
