Cardiff Half Marathon 2023 · 1 October 2023 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

This October, I'm running the Cardiff Half Marathon for Alzheimer's Society.

Alzheimer's is a disease that has affected several of my family members, including my dad, who was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer's in his mid-50s.

There's no cure. Trying to organise care can feel like a full-time job. Watching someone you love vanish before your eyes is one of the most difficult things you'll ever go through. And yet dementia is concerningly common.

By 2050, there will be 1,600,000 people in the UK living with dementia. 1 in every 3 people in the UK will develop dementia within their lifetime.

I'm going to run this half marathon either way, but if you donate today, you'll be supporting the vital work of Alzheimer's Society – work which you and your family will almost certainly rely on one day.

Before then, let's do something about it.

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
