Story
With our gyms shuttered during the pandemic, many like myself turned to running to get some otherwise scarce vitamin D. What I never expected, however, was the group of friends I would meet as part of joining a local Manhattan run club. What started off as a crazy idea to run around the island, has now become a reality. On the morning of April 17th, our band of 8 runners will take off from the west side running the entirety of the 32-mile perimeter ending where we began.
Not only will this be an epic run, but we are simultaneously raising for some epic charities. The charity I have picked, Teach About Women: https://instagram.com/teachaboutwomen?igshid=1scoefy4bikso is dedicated to harnessing the passion of students, teachers, and supporters to help K-12 (kindergarten through 12th grade) schools integrate gender equity into every aspect of school life, from curriculum to admission and hiring policies. I'm particularly excited about this charity's work to develop a history curriculum that actually includes the contributions of women. Stories are powerful, and even more so at a young age. Inspiring young boys and girls with stories of powerful women before them is a meaningful step in the fight for gender equality.
Team Summary: Brought together by our Manhattan running club in the West Village, we have decided to raise money for a number of fantastic causes by running a 32 mile ultra marathon around Manhattan.
An ultra marathon is defined as "any footrace longer than the traditional marathon length of 42.195 kilometers (26 mi 385 yd)". While we are all keen runners, none of us have achieved ultra marathon status so this will be a huge challenge and one we hope you will agree is worthy of your donation and support. You can see the charities we are running for on each of our individual pages; with each one holding a special place in our hearts.
