Story

My name is Bevan and my mother-in-law Jill Porter lost her brave fight with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in May 2017.  She had lived with MS for most of her life.  Watching her slowly deteriorate over the years was devastating for me and more so for my wife Sarah, who spent hours every single day making sure she was ok.  On a personal note it broke my heart to see my wife go through this.

Jill was an amazing and wonderful person, and was so strong and brave. It amazed me that I never heard Jill complain once. Jill clearly wanted to fight and to not be a burden, she did not want to let MS define her. What I will remember the most about her was how alive she was when she was with her family. I will always remember her sharp sense of humour and naughty smile.

MS is such a cruel disease that impacts not just the sufferer but their loved ones, who can often feel helpless and isolated, as I know we all did. There is still much we don’t understand about the disease and although the Multiple Sclerosis Society are doing such an awesome job with limited resources, there is still such a long way to go to help MS sufferers and their families.  Especially at this time they need your help more than ever!!!!

For a long time I have been scratching my head on what I can do to make a real difference…that is until I came up with the fundraising idea of combining it with my life’s great passion (the game of Squash).  I have played squash since I could stand up by myself and I have recently started a website dedicated to squash; https://www.thesquashpod.com , a big part of this site is aimed at encouraging and introducing new faces to the fittest sport on the planet!!

So this challenge is about bringing together the ardent squash community (who are missing their sport during lockdown) together with anyone who is keen on getting fit for a return to sport, by participating in online workouts specifically designed for squash players of all abilities, from beginner to professional.

I am delighted to have drafted in Britain’s very own Nick “the Wolf” Matthew OBE who is a 3 times world squash champion (find out more about Nick here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Matthew

Nick has crafted these home workouts to demonstrate Squash fitness. Forbes voted squash the healthiest sport on the planet so one of these workouts is surely a great place to start!!

Details of how to get involved in this is shown below, so please help and have some fun along the way….

The Squash Pod & Nick Matthew, 3 Times Squash World Champion and OBE, are challenging anyone of any fitness level from all sports to take up a challenge to SQUASH Multiple Sclerosis - one workout at a time.

The idea is simple. Indoor sport should be available to us all once again VERY SOON!! Between now and then Nick Matthew challenges you all to complete one of his short online workouts. So time to ramp up your own training because sport is coming back!!!

TO GET INVOLVED:

1. Choose your Squash Workout by heading over to

https://www.thesquashpod.com/squash-ms/

 2.  Simply either post a pic or video of yourself completing the challenge on any social media with the #squashms also # your sport so we can track support for the campaign.

3. Nominate 3 friends and donate a minimum of £3.00

If you liked Squash fitness maybe look up your local Squash centre and try something new Post Lockdown.

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!

Together we are sure we can all make a difference and squash ms.
