Story
For almost 10 years the Hebrides Alpha Project has been providing
supported accommodation for individuals recovering from substance misuse. The
abstinence-based project has helped more than 90 individuals over this time,
supporting them in recovery, and the rebuilding of their lives after serious
addiction issues.
There are very few families in our community that have not experienced
these difficulties or know someone that has. Funding for this project is always
challenging but this year particularly so due to the impact of Covid-19 and not being able to fundraise in
traditional ways, resulting in a difficult year for the charitable sector as a
whole.
To help with their fundraising we’ve decided to undertake a socially distanced
sponsored walk along the Sron Ulladale Stalkers Path in Harris. Its
approximately 15K and we hope to do the walk on Saturday 12 December in what
will be very limited daylight hours. We’ll be taking plenty torches.
The ‘we’ are: Daniel Stewart, Aonghas MacKenzie, Shaun MacDonald, Jonathan MacIver, Roddy Cunningham, Kenneth Maclean (Bru), Davie Chisholm, David Graham, Kenny Smith and Norman
Baco. This charity is very close to our hearts and we want to do whatever
we can to raise the profile and hopefully raise some much-needed funds.
Please be assured we will be abiding by COVID-19 regulations and social
distancing will be in place.
