Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In light of the recent struggles so many charities are having with fundraising, due to the global pandemic, St Austell Athletes Running Club have decided to organise a 24hr (socially distanced) running challenge event to raise vital funds for a charity very close to their heart.

Cornwall Air Ambulance is an independent charity which is sadly not eligible for the millions of pounds raised for the NHS. The aircrew includes our very own runner- Paul Maskell, who is the inspiration behind the 24hr challenge having represented Team GB in the 24hr World Championships (running a sensational 156.13 miles in the process!). The Cornwall Air Ambulance team have worked so hard to keep flying throughout the pandemic. However, they are set to lose a massive £1.5m by the end of the year due to the closure of charity shops, community fundraising and the closure of tourism. This could start to have huge consequences for the charity and the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The sustained lack of fundraising income could mean they have to take steps to reduce the cost of the operating service.

So… on Saturday 11th July, commencing at 10am, St Austell Athletes Running Club will begin a 24hr running fundraiser at St Austell Cricket Club. Teams of runners will complete continuous laps of the cricket ground over the 24 hr period, undertaking as many laps as possible, and most importantly, raising hundreds of pounds for such an important, local cause. In addition, members of the club from outside the county will also be entering as a ‘virtual team’ over the 24hr period. As a Virtual Running Club, St Austell Athletes Running Club boasts and welcomes members from across the country and all are keen to be involved for such a worthy cause.
If you’d like to support the fundraiser, please see the accompanying Just Giving link page below to give what you can.
Many thanks
