Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
St Davids lifeboat station was founded by the RNLI in 1869. The original boathouse houses our D-class inshore lifeboat whilst our Tyne class all-weather lifeboat lives in the boathouse opened in 1912. Although these facilities have served us well, the requirements of a modern lifeboat station cannot be met by these old buildings … the time has come to build a new boathouse at St Davids.
We need a new station to provide the modern facilities that we need - training facilities for the courses that crew members undertake at the station every year, maintenance facilities for all our equipment, drying rooms for our waterproofs when they get wet, decent changing facilities and a shower, a crew room big enough for the 30 volunteers on our crew - and more!
Our new Tamar class lifeboat arrived at the St Davids in 2013 and has already proved her worth. Currently she operates from a mooring at St Justinians but has to be moved over 20 miles to the safety of Milford Haven from the winter storms which prevent the crew from boarding the boat because of our exposed location.
Work on our new station started in June 2014 and we look forward to having it completed in the autumn of 2015. Our community fundraising appeal aims to raise £150,000 towards the cost of the new boathouse.
Help us to continue saving lives by providing the modern standards of accommodation needed by our brave St Davids volunteers. Please support our appeal.
