Story

We would like to introduce to you, a very special resident
here at St Helens Cats Protection.

This special boy is called Jason and he came to us on
20/01/2020.  As soon as we saw Jason, we
were worried, he was very thin, but very hungry.  His overall condition was poor, he had runny eyes, a runny nose, matted fur and we could feel his bones when we stroked
him.  He is a lovely gentle soul and we all fell for him straight away, we’re sure you will too.

We got him seen by a vet as soon as we could.  The vet saw him and agreed that is overall condition was poor and there was most likely an underlying condition to have
caused it.  We had his bloods taken so we could investigate further.  Whilst we
awaited those results, we had everything crossed and fell in love with him more
and more each day.

On the 24/01/2020 his blood results arrived, they were quite
a shock…for example his T4 (tests the thyroid) should be in a range of 7.5-55.0
and Jason’s was 150.6!  With results like these it was confirmed he has a condition called hyperthyroidism.

Where do we go from here?

Jason is now on medication for the next 3 weeks, in hope this will stabilise his thyroid, we will do another blood test to confirm his thyroid is stable.  If his results come
back ok, we can then go ahead and perform a thyroidectomy, this means he will have
his thyroid removed completely.

As if the poor fella didn’t have enough to go through, he
will also need a dental to remove some rotten teeth once we have sorted out his
Thyroid problem.

We expect Jason’s vet bills and care costs to rise in excess of £1500 whilst at the centre.  If you would like to donate to help us fund this, we would be very grateful. Any funds raised above and beyond the costs for Jasons treatment will go towards helping other cats and kittens in our care.

So for now it looks like we will get to have a lot more cuddles in the coming
weeks with him.  He has a tough journey ahead of him, but we will keep you updated! #JasonsJourney #JustGivingJustJason #thyroidectomy #hyperthyroid
