Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So having completed last months challenge of 150 miles, which resulted in me doing 215.49 miles. This months challenge is 200 miles which I am doing for Psoriasis Association, with the intention of increasing the mileage each month. The reason I chose to raise money for Psoriasis, its a personal reason for me.

I've had Psoriasis since I was 3 months old , I've had periods where its really bad and covered me from head to toe, I was even hospitalised with it when I was younger. It was really bad during my school years due to being bullied because I had Psoriasis and kids not understanding what it is.

I've tried and tested so many different types of treatments including lotions, creams, ointments, shampoos,  to light therapy.

Thankfully its now under control with just the occasional flare ups. Which i use emollient twice daily and a steroid ointment for the flareups. I've also found that taking vitamin D and going for walks has really helped keep it under control, because instead of letting things get to me I go walking.

Initially I started walking at the beginning of the first lockdown to help strengthen my feet after a bad accident I had 5 years ago. However that was put on stop in November when more soft tissue damage and ligament damage was found in my left foot, which halted the walking. However just before Christmas I was told to start walking again to help strengthen my foot again, otherwise I face having to have an injection in my foot or possibly an operation. So i focused on strengthening my feet which was the reason to set these monthly challenges.  In the process I found that walking actually helped clear my Psoriasis. Or maybe its helped my mental health in regards to my Psoriasis so its had a huge impact in improvement. For me Psoriasis is stress related, so walking for me and staying active in this pandemic has really helped.
I do my walking through keeping busy in work, as I work in retail so I'm a keyworker and through this pandemic I'm kept even more busy than usual, and I push myself to walk between 5 and 7 miles a day regardless of the weather. (Well apart from the snow )
So from this month February I will be raising money for this really good cause which helps so many, from advice to medication.
