Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My wife Anne, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last year. Her journey began at the Breast Clinic at Stafford where she first met the Breast Care Nursing Team. Anne's treatment moved to Stoke Hospital where Helen Francis was assigned as her key worker. Helen guided and supported her through a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Anne is doing well and will complete her treatment in February 2017. Despite a few hiccups along the way, Helen has always been there to support her; in fact the whole team have been wonderful.

Unfortunately Macmillan don't have the funds to allocate a nurse to everyone with cancer and Anne is one of those who haven't got a Macmillan nurse, so in her case Helen has become a life line. Whilst Helen and her fellow nurses are employed by the NHS, nearly all the literature given to breast cancer patients is funded by the hospital Breast Care Trust Fund, which is a charity. Some of the specialised equipment in the department is also funded by the Breast Care Trust Fund.

It is unbelievable that such fundamental services, information and equipment are not provided by the NHS, but rely on charity, especially when 1 in every 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer; that's around 54 thousand every year in the UK.

It is a sad fact that if you don't already know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, it is most likely that someone you know will be diagnosed in the future.

It's for this reason that I am raising money for the Breast Care Trust Fund so that they can keep on supporting people like Anne.
