Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

STAR UK has been a proud sponsor of Translators Without Borders http://translatorswithoutborders.org for three years now. In light of the recent crisis in Syria and the urgent need for translators and interpreters in refugee camps all over the globe, we decided to make 2016 the year in which we hike up our support – quite literally.

How? By asking you kind people to sponsor us to climb the three highest hills in our region _all in a single day_. The Surrey Three Peaks Challenge on 23rd July will see Managing Director Steve and translators Catherine, Zoë and Natalie walk 26 miles – equivalent to a marathon – scale the heights of Holmbury Hill (261 m), Leith Hill (292 m) and Box Hill (224 m), and even tackle the most testing section of the road race cycling event in the London 2012 Olympics along the way.

Why? Because we understand the difference that translation can make and we recognise the importance of giving people access to
information that affects them in a way they can understand. Translators Without Borders works for humanitarian charities that need vital information translated, employing volunteers to translate reports, health warnings, safety precautions and crisis response material for organisations handling emergencies around the world, such as Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, Oxfam and Handicap International.

Operations Manager Karen has agreed to drive to strategic locations en route to supply our happy hikers with ice-cream and bacon sandwiches, but what we need even more are your generous donations for
Translators Without Borders.

We will be extremely grateful for anything you can give, and you will be helping to break down the language barriers that hinder critical humanitarian efforts worldwide. Any messages of support will also be gratefully received!

Thank you.
