Swimarathon 2020 · 11 January 2020 ·
Starfish is a small local charity that runs a swimming club for children and young adults with learning difficulties. We aim to give our members the opportunity to improve their swimming capability and realise their full potential as a swimmer, whilst developing a strong sense of teamwork, self discipline, self esteem and sportsmanship in a safe a caring environment.
Our members may first come to us as complete non-swimmers, who have been unable to access mainstream swimming lessons, and with additional help and support are first able to learn to swim and then progress on to competitive swimming in galas run by the likes of the Special Olympics. We rely on donations and members' subscriptions in order to fund the future running of the charity. Any donations will be split 50/50 between Starfish and the Maidenhead Lions who run the event.
Maidenhead Lions have been organising the successful annual Swimarathon since 1986, during which time nearly £1,000,000 has been donated. Lions enjoy the continuing support of local schools, churches, youth organisations & sports and social clubs as well as many local companies and individuals. Swimmers of all ages and abilities enjoy working as a team to raise money for their favourite good causes and for Lions too.
