Story

"It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop"

Hello there!

I'm Stefinee, an adventure-seeking, scuba addict and this will come as a surprise for those that know me as I'm usually found head deep in coral, in the ocean somewhere! As I much prefer to be in the water than out :)   I am fundraising for The Brompton Fountain Charity which supports the treatment and care of seriously ill children at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital, a specialist hospital for the treatment of heart and lung disease.

This hospital holds a special place in my heart as having seen firsthand the care and support provided to patients and their families, my brother had to undergo a double-lung transplant having suffered from Bronchiectasis. At the time he had been given a life expectancy of <5yrs pre-op, TODAY he is living his full life with medication and occasional hospital checks.

With a 50% survival rate to 5yrs for lung transplant patients ... This year marks a huge milestone in his recovery journey (double digits), and so I have decided to embark on my most challenging adventure yet - trekking 130km across 12days, reaching altitudes over 5500m to Mt Everest Base Camp (EBC) in Nepal, this coming March 2022. That is the equivalent distance of (3/4) of London's M25! or 13 laps around the perimeter of Central Park, New York - without the added challenge of navigating different terrains and altitudes.

The funds raised will support the services that The Brompton Fountain charity provides to parents and families of children undergoing treatment which extends beyond the NHS remit, providing practical and emotional support from the first diagnosis, through hospitalisation to home after-care support.

The Healing Hearts campaign aims to fund lifesaving medical equipment and specialist resources to improve care for young patients and to help aid their recovery and promote wellbeing. With the money raised from the appeal, we aim to purchase new state of the art bedside heart monitors for the children’s ward. These touch screen machines will provide tailored monitoring for each child. They are also wireless which means that staff can monitor patients remotely. Each monitor will cost over £6000.

 - Raising the bar!

In a week of going live, you amazing people have helped me reach over 100% of my original £2k target.  With under 3 weeks still to go before I embark on my epic hike I've decided to 'push the boat out and RAISE THE BAR!  Will you help me reach a new target of £6k? this will be enough to fund a new heart monitor for the pediatric ward. ♥

Amazing! £6k target smashed with still 5days to reach base camp! Why stop there? 😍💪 So I'm raising the bar again! 130km the distance I will be trekking, so let's push it to £10,300!?

£10k - I'll commit to going 20 burpees, 20 squat jumps GAME ON!

This is a fully self funded solo endevour, all donations go directly to the charity - I appreciate it if you are unable to donate but would equally value the sharing of my Story to raise awareness on organ donation and the invaluable support that The Brompton Fountain charity provides.  I also aim to post updates and trekking progress in due course.

On a final note, if you have completed this trek I would love to hear about your experience and any recommendations you have to offer as I embark on my most challenging adventure to date!
