We support people with Spinal Cord Injury to help them live full, independent lives

Story

It all started with a conversation at work exactly 5 years ago. I had a casual conversation with a colleague about life dreams and ambitions. With no hesitation I blurted out: I would love to swim the English Channel.

His response to me quite soberly was, Why don’t you start with swimming to the Isle of Wight? And within a few hours I had signed myself up to my first open water swim. As the saying goes ‘The rest is history….’

Now, 5 years on from that one conversation, I find myself 7 months away from swimming the English Channel as part of a relay team.

2020, what a year. I often hear on the media that people speak about wanting to move on from this year and forget. I understand why that might be but I treasure that this year has given me the opportunity to understand again what the freedom of swimming provides me mentally as well as physically. This year more than any previous years I have swam mostly in open water and no other year before have I managed to swim in just a swimming costume in the middle of winter.

As part of the Channel Swim Relay challenge I’m raising money for charity. The charity I’m raising money for is called ‘Aspire’ https://www.aspire.org.uk ; Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help to people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury. A spinal cord injury can happen to anyone at any time, and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire exists because there is currently no cure.

I hope you support & follow me on my journey of achieving my life dream of swimming the Channel. Thank you for reading.
