Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis (APF) is a growing community of patients, families, researchers and healthcare professionals striving to find a cure for pulmonary fibrosis so that everyone affected by the disease has a better future. Every penny donated is a victory against this devastating disease.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Dad was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis early in 2020. It was devastating as we’d already had to come to terms with Mum being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Naturally, when COVID hit, we were desperate to avoid passing it on to Dad so we had months where we couldn’t hug him or kiss him.

Sadly, we lost Dad in 2021; he caught pneumonia.  His lungs, already compromised by the fibrosis, couldn’t cope with the pneumonia and the pulmonary embolisms that followed.  It took just 2.5 weeks.

Had Dad still been with us, this year would have marked their 56th wedding anniversary.

Starting on Mum’s 75th birthday and finishing on what would have been Dad’s 80th birthday, I will be swimming a mile for every year of their marriage.

Given that we’re currently facing a cost of living crisis, I am aware money could be tight so anything that can be donated would be hugely appreciated.

APF’s vision is to find a cure for pulmonary fibrosis so that everyone affected by the disease has a better future.  We provide support to families, raise awareness, campaign and educate to improve access to the highest standard of care for everyone affected.  We are committed to finding a cure through funding research.
