Virgin London Marathon 2016 · 24 April 2016 ·

The DFSG helps families affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a muscle-wasting condition mainly affecting boys. The condition results in decreasing mobility and muscle strength with limited life expectancy (usually to mid-20s). We provide a helpline, support, and organise social events.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.I'm running my first marathon in memory of my brother Richard who died aged just 20 from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2007.Duchenne is a muscle wasting disease which gets progressively worse with time. Rich spent much of his life in a wheelchair and was almost completely paralysed towards the end of his life. He was always incredibly upbeat despite the steady decline of his health and we miss him, his positivity and his sense of humour more than words can say.The Duchenne Family Support Group were a lifeline to our family in the face of this devastating disease, offering support and advice, a break for mum and dad who dedicated themselves to the 24/7 care Rich needed and the opportunity for Rich to have fun and just be normal in the company of other boys affected by DMD. I'm running to raise money for this tiny charity who are extremely close to my heart and I'm very grateful for anything you can spare to sponsor me.
