Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm doing a skydive for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) where I work at Addenbrooke's Hospital. I'm doing this because I think it is such an amazing place and I really want to give something back.
This is a place where miracles really do seem to happen. The sickest babies and children in the region are given the chance to have a happy future against all the odds. This is thanks to the expertise of the PICU team and the cutting edge technology available such as breathing machines (ventilators).
The PICU at Addenbrooke's is a 13 bedded ward caring for babies and children aged 0 - 16 years. They go here because they require close 24 hour observation from doctors, nurses and other members of the PICU team such as dietitians, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, play specialists, councellor practitioners, clinical psychologists and health care assistants.
Many patients are admitted as emergencies such as following a road traffic accident or they are transfered from other wards at Addenbrooke's or from other hospitals. The PICU is part of the regional trauma network and was recently documented in the BBC series 'Life Savers'.
ACT is the independent registered charity for Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Addenbrooke's and the Rosie Hospitals and it is dedicated to making a difference to improve the experience of patients, their families and the staff who care for them.
Donations enable the hospital to provide a level of patient care beyond what NHS funding alone can deliver and make projects happen sooner or to a greater degree than might have otherwise been possible. Charitable donations fund high-tech equipment, specialist staff, extra comforts and vital research to find potential cures and help save lives locally, nationally and worldwide.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate for PICU now!
Thanks,
Steph
